Poor thing having an innocent sleep and gets poked awake.

You realise that he/she will remember that and wake you up when you are resting when their time comes

Glad all is well my friend

Even though Lucy is 35, I still remember one time when she didn't move for about 15 mins and I was distraught!! Try not to get too worried, Jenni - all is well

Hi Julie

A slumber bear plays womb sounds to the baby and they find it very soothing to hear and it helps them settle to sleep.

My intention is to use it when I put the baby down to go off to sleep and after the night- use a musical elephant that Gemma chose to put on in the mornings when the baby wakes.

I understand I can use it in the day too.

As long as I keep to the going to sleep/ waking up routines it should be fine.

The idea is to get the baby tuned into the routine to start with and then to try and show the difference between night and day so at 3-4 months I can get a whole night sleep.

You never know!

Its worth a try.

Had another 2 hr sleep this pm.

Obviously what I need right now- had a great time at church in the park. Great to see 700 people there and some fantastic singing.

Enjoyed a picnic and Yannick got a lot of admiring attention.

Lovely- then came home for a sleep.

Sounds like an ideal day Jenni. So glad that your enjoyed the church activities and I understand babies like music when they are in the womb so peanut probably had a good time too.

Sleep is the best thing for you at the moment whilst peanut is taking so much of your energy

A big day today.

Going to hospital for scan at 28wks/ 29 wks.

Then into see gynea and obs and diabetic team.

They will discuss my ceasar options and about the kidneys (maybe get a date).

I also am going to have the dreaded drops for eye test.

Dropping M and G off at mums and Yanny will be coming with us. Going to get him some chewy sticks for being a good boy!

Richard is home (taken day off) and so I can get away with not driving.

Nearly finished Peanuts room- sticking boarder on the left hand wall later and then just a lick of paint on the baby furniture (its all second hand but sturdy).

New Mattress for cot comes this am.

Feel a bit apprehensive.

Jenni - I know this is the wrong place for this post, but knew you would see it here. Crashed the computer (AGAIN? I hear you all saying) so can't find your e-mail address. If you let me have it I will send Gwenda's phone number to you as I know she would love to hear from you.

Been to the hosp.

All ok! The kidneys are not working quite right but it is ok because it is part of the RA and the pregnancy. They aren't worried.

I have suddenly got enormous blood pressure so will be doubling the methalydopa over the next few days to 1500.

The insulin is also going up again- now 30,30,38,30!

Much closer monitoring now, going every 2 weeks, plus next time I will see the anaestetic team- will give me a date all being well.

Had the scan and Peanut is huge!

too big to fit on the screen at one time but Richard and I and Yannick saw the baby wriggling, moving and kicking. Not such a good view as Peanut is so large, still saw little hands, legs curled up and little kicking feet!

Richard and Yannick got to hear the baby heart beat too (for the first time)

The baby is a little on the bigger side (from my diabetes) but within the top of normal range.

Need my eyes testing for the diabetes again in next few weeks and then I have to have more bloods done next week.

2 months to go.

Jenny - really good news about the kidneys, that must have been a worry for you.You have not got long to go now, I found the last few weeks the toughest, my second baby weighed 9lb 3oz, so he was a whopper. He was a very content and placid baby, just slept and slept the first few weeks.

HUGE KNOCKERS ALERT!

Its official they are ginormous!

Richard needless to say is very happy with the senario- and I guess Peanut will be even happier.

I turn 29 weeks this wk.

Despite my fall, the baby seems to be absolutely fine- I have a few unsexy bruises but otherwise all ok.

Midwife rang today- saw her yesterday and she is pleased with progress. BP down now I am taking an extra tablet a day.

I am going to have more bloods done this wk and will see midwife twice and she is keeping a close eye.

Trying to keep Peanut in there for as long as we can, 32 weeks plus ideally.

CONSTRUCTION ZONE Your baby's organs are becoming refined enough for him to start testing them out. The lungs are dividing and getting plenty of practice for life in the outside world. They expand and contract repeatedly - although he's not actually breathing yet, of course. Your baby also swallows the amniotic fluid through his mouth and "breathes" it in through his nose. His kidneys are regularly producing urine, which enables the fluid he has ingested to be excreted. This recycling helps his lungs, intestines, and kidneys practice their jobs of breathing, digestion, and elimination.

THE SEEING EYES Your baby's eyes are busy these days. He can open and close them and look around. There isn't much to look at in his dark, watery world. Nevertheless, by 30 weeks he'll be able to coordinate his eye and body movements in response to changes in luminosity inside your womb. If a very bright light shines onto your abdomen, your baby will respond by blinking and turning away from this unfamiliar glow.

HAIR TODAY, GONE TOMORROW Although your baby already has soft hair on his head, it's probably darker than his final hair colour will be, and he is likely to lose it a month or two after birth. It may then take many months for a full head of hair to finally grow. Your little one has been busily growing and now weighs about 1 kg (21/2 pounds) and measures between 35 and 38 centimetres (14 and 15 inches) long.

How to deal with new discomforts

THE UNCOMFORTABLE THIRD TRIMESTER Not long now! With only a matter of weeks left before you meet your baby, you might have to get used to some new discomforts as your body prepares for the birth. The increased weight and pressure of the baby can cause aches and pains in your upper and lower back, and there are increased demands on your pelvic area. This is the time to remind yourself as often as possible about maintaining a good posture.

BREATHE EASY Your uterus is becoming larger and higher in your abdomen, and presses on your diaphragm. This means breathing can become more difficult and leave you feeling out-of-breath often. Your body is telling you to slow down, so listen and take heed. Regular resting and stretching will help you get your breath back. If you are struggling to get comfortable in bed, try sleeping in a semi-sitting position, surrounded by pillows for support. This should ease the pressure on your diaphragm. For more sleep tips, click here.

GUT FEELINGS During pregnancy your entire gastrointestinal system slows down, and the muscles of the stomach and gullet relax. This allows digestive acids to flow backwards, giving you heartburn and indigestion, with symptoms including a burning sensation in your throat, sharp pains or cramping in your stomach, and an awful taste in your mouth. To relieve these problems, eat small, frequent meals and avoid fatty foods. Also, try to avoid lying down after you have eaten.

Ante natal classes have begun!

Went last night to ante natal class. There were about 7 couples there and it was all about labour, birth and c sections.

I met a nice lady there who lives in the next village and she is due in Nov (which would be the same as me) we got on well- partly because she has excellent taste in tops (we had the same one on!)

I was able to ask my 2 questions which were- can I hold the baby from the c-section straight away (want to do skin to skin contact). And will having the section effect my ability to breast feed.

Both questions answered. If I need a GA then no I wont be able to hold the baby but I can request that baby is taken out to Richard to hold and he can whip off his top for the all important skin on skin contact.

(phwar!)

Otherwise with an epidural I should be able to.

I should be able to feed the baby, they will use my milk in the scbu unless there is good reason not to (my boobs arent doing it- or medicine I need cant go to baby) but should be fine even with very prem babies.

The whole birth and labour process looks scarey. The pain and stuff after the c section didnt look encouraging either! Surely someone must design an easier way to get the baby out?!

Another good thing that came from the eve is loads of info about post birth support and a Doola. They can come and help at home when I have had the baby and will even help with the home and children if I have to stay in hosp for a longer time.

Got her no and will be ringing!

The thing that came over most to me is the planning aspect. I need to do a birth plan and a plan for the rest of the family. We need to do this asap.

Will talk to R about this over the next few days and write one and get that blooming bag packed- one for me and one for Richard.

What a lot to think about!

Not long now!

Sorry a Doula is a midwife helper.

they come and help ladies who have had babies, they come and help ironing, shopping, bathing the baby etc etc.

They are mum helpers really, the NCT (national childbirth trust) are going to organise me one.

I need to ring her and arrange to meet and chat things through.

Nearly there Jenni, how exciting! How wonderful to have these Doulas now, wish they had been around 30 years ago when mine were babies, but they have come through unscathed with their dolittle Mum!

It's a wonderful time you will always remember, so glad you have already met a mate at the class, I'm still in touch with my antenatal friends, its great.

Take care in these last weeks, Lizxx

Hi liz

There was an awful woman there- a real waynetta slob!

Has 3 kids, pregnant again, velour jogging bottoms and crimpy smelly t shirt!

Brought her mother who is horrible and gives disabled people a bad name- in a wheelchair as she is simply FAT (30 stone plus). Claims everything and moans non stop.

Spent whole time complaining that she couldnt smoke and went out 3 times with much clattering and huffing with prg daughter for fags.

Had to physically restrain Richard!

That poor, poor baby.

Thank goodness everyone else was friendly and "normal"

There is always one Jenni - isn't there

Don't let it ruin your experience though and think happy thoughts for peanut.

Unfortunately, there are some people who will 'go their own way' regardless of the help and advice given. Can't believe people still smoke and drink whilst pregnant and like you, I feel for the little baby.

Peanut is so lucky to have you and Richard as mum and dad

By the way, the doola sounds just great. When I had Neil I knew nothing about babies to be honest. There had never been any in the family whilst I was growing up as I am the youngest and we have a very small family.

The first night I was told to put a bonnet on Neil as it got cold during the night (december birth) and I put it on back to front

May be that explains everything with Neil!!!!

Hi all

I was going to do a general blog on here, letting you all know my weds appt will choose the date for the c section etc.

BUT I have had an awful, awful weekend and I feel very emotional and tired.

My children have been terribly unsettled and this has led to serious and repeated regression to survival behaviour which involves stealing, lying and hating and being afraid, hyper vigilant and angry.

Gemma stole all the cakes and flatly denied it, cake all round mouth etc. then called me stupid for thinking that she might be responsible! Huge paddy whacker on sunday- made us late. again all my fault apparently.

Had paddy on saturday over homework. Apparently demanding that I do her STUPID homework didnt get the desired response so she spat at me. Had another paddy.

This morning her uniform couldnt be "found" as it is in a smelly heap behind a unit. I am not a good mum as I havent washed it for her, esp as she DEFINATELY has put it in the wash and not stuffed it in a stinky heap.

Besides that she would rather wear her bikini and sit in the garden.

SHe then had another wobbly, she was 45 mins late this morning to school.

Michael has also been dreadful, simple tasks are beyond him and he has lied all wk about doing his homewrk. He had 10 bits to do and couldnt "find" any of his stuff. He has only been there 4 days!!

Spent 2 and 1/2 hrs looking for his school stuff.

Then evil mum got him to do his work, sat with him and wrote a timetable- how horrible am I?

After that i did much much worse- I broke 2 rules of coping with messed up brain children

1) I picked a battle that I was unsure whether I could win (asked Gemma to return wrappers of cakes so we dont get vermin- she loved this power of course!)

2) I lost it and shouted at Richard and the children and allowed 2 messed up children to set the emotional tone of the household.

Saw midwife this morning and surprise surprise my blood pressure is high so I am on enforced rest now or I am going to have to go into hosp which would be more difficult all round.

Gemma and Michael have therapy tommorow.

Richard home so he can take some of the flack!

Love

Oh Jenni, what a horrible weekend you have had and I am sure the stress won't help your RA or peanut.

I would like to reassure you though. I am sure neither of the children would push the boundaries if they weren't secure in your love. It sounds like a typical mother and children relationship regardless of whether they are adopted or not.

My Neil took me to hell and back when he was young. I had awful problems with him. He was constantly challenging me, he did steal, lie, etc and I really did wonder at times if we would move on from that period. However, he has grown into a considerate, loving and caring individual. I could tell you plenty of things he got up to during his childhood but may be that would be better for when we are chatting together.

Just have faith (you have plenty of that) that you and Richard are doing the very best for Michael and Gemma and that these times will pass. They have the added 'stress' of peanut's arrival and where they will 'fit' into the family.

You are doing all the right things, setting guidelines and boundaries, re-enforcing behaviour and just showing you love them both. You are a wonderful mother and should be proud of yourself.

Here are the LATEST updates on the ever growing PEANUT!

Ups and downs. Your acrobat may be standing on his head now: most babies settle in the head-down, or vertex, position by this week. Ideally, he'll stay put until you give birth. But remember, your little one has a mind of his own-he might decide to change positions several times before he's born. You might feel him jostling into place as he flips, especially if he does so late in your pregnancy.

As full as it gets. The amount of amniotic fluid in your uterus right now-about one and a half litres-makes it fairly easy for your baby to switch from head up to head down. Over the next eight weeks, the amount of fluid will decrease as the amount of baby increases.

Measuring up. Your baby weighs between 1.5 to nearly 2 Kg (about 3 to 4.5 pounds) and measures about 45 cm (about 18 inches) stretched out.

Hi all

A big week this week as I see the midwife today and then I am off up the hosp on weds for scan and (hopefully not too long) wait to see the gynea and obs consultant.

Peanut is no longer huge- MASSIVE is adequate!

Even my maternity trousers are struggling to keep the bump contained- Gemma cant get her arms round me any more!!

I have started to feel the pressure in my lower back and I am aware the baby is pressing me "lower down" inside.

I hope this means that the baby is turning into position!!!

Will ask midwife today. Either that or I am constipated.... I dont think I am!

So glamorous!

NOT.

having a good day with Gemms today as she has an inset day- going out this afternoon to visit the vicar as he has a lovely doggy.

Storm is a beautiful white german shepherd.

Gemma is doing a project on dogs for school so we have got the camera and she was awake at 7 this morning writing questions for storms owner.

Puffy hands and lower legs.

Hi

I have these!

I got Richard to massage my aching legs last night but there seems to be an awful lot of swelling in my lower legs and ankles, I dont know how much of it is being 7+ mnths prg. and how much is RA and steroids.

By a couple of hrs on the laptop my fingers are like sausages!

Very sexy!

Have commandeered to sofa for my legs!

Going for a scan today and a (hopefully not too long) wait for the gynea and obs chappy.

Had a stressy morning with Gemma who lost it completely over this "rights of the child" day at school.

She wasnt fed or looked after and was "hurt" when she was small and this has been a nightmare for her as she now thinks that she is not worth looking after as no one did.

I think this is terribly sad for a little girl.

She refused to wash, get dressed or eat this morning and just growled and cried in a heap.

Marvelous.

Calmed down enough for me to take her to school in the end- I have made a decision to take her out of school tommorow when they are all doing "the rights of the child" day and there is a big NSPCC assembly.

Last yr Gemms legged it off the school grounds and hid.

Not risking it this yr- not after this morning.

Mental health day!!!

(mine!)

So - let me get this right - last year the school held an event which upset a vulnerable child so much she ran off and hid - and they're doing it again this year??? In the name of the NSPCC!!! The mind well and truly boggles!!

Good for you for keeping her off Jenni and for staying sane in the face of such flagrant insensitivity!! Not got the hang of this "every child matters" much then have they? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Cant even respond to Jennis blog without wanting to go down to Gemma's school and batter the HEAD. WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY THINKING!
APart from all the children that have gone through difficult childhoods themseleves and are trying to move on - think of al the kids that are currently in difficult situations themselves. Every child in the school will pick on one aspect of the day and flounce back home to accuse the parents of something or other.
I remember Charlie coming back from school with the telephone number for childline. He said that because he hadn't been fed his 5 fruit and veg each day over the last week (terrible flares - dared to go to the chip shop one night for tea) he was conecerned that he was suffering from malnutrition and was going to call childline to complain! ...yes...seriously.

Anyway - prayers and god thoughts being sent - hope Gema has a better week!

OH wow Jenni - I cant believe what I'm reading here.
Poor Gemma, keep her at home and have a special day together. Life took a big turn for the better when she and Michael found you. I'm sure also that she wont be the only child affected by this rather blunt and insensitive - certainly not thought out approach to the day.

Am I the only one thinking that schoolchildren are not actually the ones who should be the target of this consciousness raising day?

Hello all

Gemma is home with me today (mental health!)

Got on well at the hosp yesterday compared to the time before. Only 1hr and 1/2 wait!

Scan was great.

Peanut had his/her eyes OPEN!!

I am going to look into those eyes in a few wks- very exciting!!!

Baby is head down now- really ready to be born. Weighs 4lb 2oz now.

Because growth rate has slowed down I have been able to put c section date back to the 12th Nov. I will be 1 day shy of 39 wks then so best for baby if I can go that long.

Having said that, baby can come at any time from now really.

If labour starts I go to the hosp and they will section me then.

Love

Jenni, Gemma and Peanut xxx

hI all

Just a little update as we head into wk 33!

I feel a bit fed up with being pregnant now- Baby is uncomfortable and its head is pressing into my pelvis.

My lower back hurts and so do I.

RA is ok globally but I am very tired and my hands and feet get painful and swollen.

Going to the loo every hr and getting up about twice a night.

Waking up a lot too as not comfy, even with bump pillow.

Breathing and eating not very comfy either as baby has squitched all those bits skyward.

In the meantime Peanut is fine in there, cant feel wriggling as much more turning and thrusting of limbs!!

I guess there is less room to wriggle in.

Richard says I smell of baby- warm ovaltine apparently!

Going to learn how to breast feed this wk at classes on tues.

Had a tough day with the children but in the end they have settled to bath and bed well.

Night all

Jenni, everything you mention is utterly normal at this stage in pregnancy - just think of poor elephants, pregnant for 18 months!

Seriously though, not too much longer now, you have done SO well, also glad the day ended OK for Gemma and Michael. The ups and downs of life eh?! Hope you get a bit of sleep, take care Lizxx

Hi all

Been to see the midwife and then she has had a flap as my blood pressure has shot up.

Tested me 3 times. still high.

Went up to the hospital to be monitored.

Baby fine- heartbeat strong and regular- right speed etc.

Baby is a biggun and is pressing on my pelvis and it is hurting, but "normal".

The dr came and took a load of blood tests.

Put up my dose of methayldopa and have organised me to come and be monitored again on weds.

Good news as then I can do my trip to Bath hosp tomorrow.

Been told to rest.

Ha Ha (not easy in our household)

hello!

Back from cloudy Bath.

Saw the head chappy himself. Thank goodness for that because the other dr they had in there today was so awful I saw 3 patients leave in tears. Very limited English, deaf and not inclined to listen either. What a twit.

Anyway, I was blessed with the consultant.

he has given me 2 options, retuximab and azothyaprin.

I said i would prefer to try the azothyaprin. So after Christmas I will see him again and I can start.

That gives me a few weeks to feed Peanut!

Hurrah!

All in all- a success.

My blood results from yesterday were ok, going to be checked tomorrow at hosp.

Very tired after long journey.

fish and chips for tea me thinks!!!

Hi Jenni,

I am so glad that today went well. How refreshing for you to have been treated like an intelligent adult, who can be given and make an informed choice, instead of being given a prescription and sent away with no/little choice other than to take it or not. You have taught me so much by this and , at my next OPA in November, I am going to be more questioning and less accepting especially in view of kidney problem.
The best part of all for you is that you are going to have a few weeks to bond with your baby by breastfeeding!

Enjoy your evening: let us know how tomorrow goes.

Hello

I am home!

Blood pressure still on the high side but as it is coming down they have let me home.

It was a whopping 176/107 yesterday.

Now 150/92 so better.

I am seeing midwife 2morrow and have to go in for monitoring on mon, weds and fri incl a clinic trip on weds.

my hands and feet have swollen up so I need to try and keep them up and drink plenty.

My mum in law is going to walk Yannick for me,

If there are any probs I have to ring and go into hosp over weekend.

I saw the consultant himself an he was pleased with progress so far, but things are going to be a bit rocky for me. Peanut is fine in there, heartbeat strong and not dropped at all, moving about well.

I am 33 wks + and baby is about 4.5 lbs so if I did have an emerg section then all should be fine.

Obviously best to keep baby in as long as poss.

Thanks for all lovely messages.

I have had a very difficult couple of days.

I saw the midwife for a BP check and I hate to say it but it had gone up again.

She asked if I felt ok and I said I felt a bit under the weather and I had a back ache.

Well, After she left I went for a sleep upstairs. When i woke my back really hurt.

AS the evening went on the pain got worse and then my bump started to feel tighter. I went for a wee and noticed I was bleeding a few drops.

Had a panic! My midwife came and sent me up the hosp.

My mum came over and Richard took me to hosp. It was 1am.

They managed to stop the contractions. Monitored the baby and a dr came and did an "internal" and gave my cervix a swab and a feel. (lovely!)

Actually, all was well with Peanut and the cervix intact and as it should be. Bleeding stopped.

They gave me a big dose of dyhrydracodine.

We got home at 5.30am.

Woke at 9am with terrible back pains.

Took more pain relief, now feel spaced out.

My bump has "dropped" and the pains might be that the baby is pressing hard into my pelvis but also the ligaments/ muscles and my other bits are getting ready for the "big off" and this is upsetting my complicated other RA type bits.

Whatever- It bloody hurts!

I am snuggled on sofa with heat pad, having taken some more spacey tablets!

Yannick went back to canine partners today, I felt with the baby being so close and me having to go in and out of hospital it would be fairer to let him be fed, exercised and be given company with someone who wasnt so tied up! he has only been gone a day and I miss him DREADFULLY. Once baby is here and the section scar is healed enough then he can come home to me.

I tell you something, if the last few weeks are going to be like this I will be begging them to take Peanut out sooner rather than later.

Having said that at 4.5 lb baby could do with being a lb or so bigger really.

Still, will do as I am told!

Love

Hello everyone

I have been in and out of hospital and back and forwards trying to keep my BP and stuff under control.

I am now on an enormous dose of methayldopa (2000mg a day) and have to take 2 tablets 4x a day.

These pills are making me feel dreadful.

I feel terribly low, weepy and sleepy and rough.

If it wasnt for Peanut I would be refusing the treatment.

I keep getting spasms across my back and bump- they then go.

I think this is called braxton hicks.

I know being 34 1/2 wks would make peanut premature but right now I have had enough and want the baby OUT...

I am not comfortable, lying, sitting standing .

When I get to heaven I will be having words with God about some serious design improvements!!!

My eyes feel all "chemically" and i think this is the drugs too.

I am going to be monitored at the hosp tomorrow again.

They are looking after us well, however exhausting it is getting into Southampton and paying tonnes of money to park... if that doesnt put up the bp nothing will.

Oh Jenni,

I feel for you. If it isn't bad enough having RA but to also be in the most uncomfortable stage of pregnancy too. You are doing so well: to think that you have got this far with all the difficulties that you have faced. There is a book in there somewhere: seriously Jenni, start planning it now . Apart from anything else, it will provide some distraction from all that is going on. Your posts have proven that you have a talent for writing and for turning something quite awful which may have have happened to you into a funny event. There is also the blog as evidence for your ability to write. Who knows, you could start a new trend for problem pregnancy books.
I hope that all goes well tomorrow. Just hang on in there: the baby will come or be delivered when the time is right for both of you.

Love Eleanor

Hello everyone

GOOD NEWS! Peanut has officially descended.

Hurrah!

Plus the twinges etc are braxton hicks and me body is getting ready for the BIG OFF!

Not so good news- the blood pressure is still lairy at 160/102. I simply cant have any more of that methayldopa stuff.

SO the plan is that if it goes above the 105-110 level then I will go in.

Or if I get that headache and visual disturbance i will go back in.

Also if the swelling in my throat gets any worse than will go in.

I am going in for monitoring again next weds anyway.

I did make the point that the coming into hosp every other day and wondering whether or not peanut is ok and whether they will keep me in is possibly not helping the BP.

The dr said "oh I realise it might be difficult for you to come in..." Well, actually love you have NO IDEA what it is like to just "come in!!"

The other thing the midwife was saying is that I cant expect my body to just "cope" with being diabetic, having RA and other things that go with that, drug regime and being nearly 9 months pregnant and not expect my body to show some signs of strain.

In the meantime, the baby monitoring was exciting, Peanut set the alarms off as it was "too even" and then the midwife tapped on peanuts bump. This woke baby up with a jump and .... PEANUT GOT HICCOUGHS! I could hear it through the machine... how COOL is that!

So all in all a successful day- no hospital stay, peanut on the way and all is well enough.

Hi

This is the extra bit.

I realise all Mummy's think their children are special (my 2 are something incredible!) but I have had a strong feeling about Peanut.

I think Peanut is destined for an adult life of public service, whether that it is formal politics or campaigning outside formal politics.

Perhaps it is just the hormones!!

Actually pretty emotional doing all that cut and paste
especially the bits about the lovely Gwenda.
What a vibrant forum we had then. bit sad actually...
anyway!
My delightful youngest is now 4!

After this blog- i spent 4 days in HDU and then after a few weeks in and Bernice came out of her neo natal unit and we were home.
She wouldnt feed but thats the next blog!

At least that time, that one special time that was so full of trauma and extreme stress really I came home with someone wonderful who smelled of freshly baked bun at 6 wks early then- youd never ever know now.
